1. What Photo Verification is
Photo Verification helps users feel more confident that the person behind a profile appears to match the photos they have uploaded. The journey is: upload profile photos, take a new live verification photo with the phone camera, the system compares the live photo against the profile photos, and successfully verified profiles receive an orange Photo Verified tick.
Uploading profile photos alone never results in verification. The verification image must be newly captured using the camera; an existing gallery image does not satisfy the live capture step.
2. What the orange tick means
- It means the user completed Orrbbit Photo Verification — a live photo was checked against their profile photos.
- It does NOT mean legal identity verification, a background or criminal-history check, guaranteed safety, or an Orrbbit endorsement.
3. Images and facial processing
- Profile photos: uploaded by the user and shown on their profile.
- Live verification photo: captured in the moment during verification and used to perform the comparison.
- Whether a facial template or biometric embedding is generated, how it is stored, and for how long: OWNER / LEGAL CONFIRMATION REQUIRED.
- Liveness or spoof detection (detecting photos of photos, screens or masks): not currently confirmed as implemented. OWNER / LEGAL CONFIRMATION REQUIRED.
- Processing location (on-device, Orrbbit server or third-party provider) and provider identity: OWNER / LEGAL CONFIRMATION REQUIRED.
4. Consent
Where required by law, specific consent is obtained before any biometric processing takes place. Photo Verification is optional: declining it means the profile does not display the Photo Verified tick. Verification does not guarantee that any other user will connect with you.
5. Accuracy and errors
Automated comparison systems can make errors. If verification fails unexpectedly, users can retry. Whether manual review is available for disputed results: OWNER / LEGAL CONFIRMATION REQUIRED.
6. Storage, retention and deletion
How long verification images and any derived data are retained: OWNER / LEGAL CONFIRMATION REQUIRED. When an account is deleted, verification-related data is included in the deletion process described in the Account Deletion & Data Retention Policy.
7. Security
Images are transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Security certifications or further technical claims are not made unless substantiated.
